Because Mobilemate's work is based on the configuration file, this task will generate a configuration file based on your choice. Then, in any time, you can convert the video file using this configuration file.
1), Video Format: 3gp, 3g2, mp4, flv, webm, mkv. Also called “container format”. Basically, “3gp” and “3g2” is mainly used on mobile phone; “flv” and “webm” is mainly used on internet; “mp4” and “mkv” is used on many common places. Especially, “mkv”(Matroska) container can contain virtually any kind of video and audio stream format, so it is most freely to choose its video and audio stream format. The default video format(container format) is “mp4”. For more detail of video format, see also: Comparison of container formats.
Because “mkv” format can contain virtually any format of video and audio stream, so we choose “mkv” in this step, then click “OK” to next.
2), Video Codec: h263, mpeg4, h264, xvid, vp8. Use “h264” codec can obtain the better quality than “mpeg4” but need more converting time with the same size. The default codec is “mpeg4”. See also: Comparison of video codecs. We keep the default “mpeg4” codec then click “OK” to next.
3), Video Bitrate: 192k~2048k. Basically, higher bitrate gets higher quality and bigger size with same other conditions. See also: What bitrate should I use when encoding my video? How do I optimize my video for the web?
4), FPS for the Output File: 10~30. Bigger FPS gets more smoother movie but need bigger file size.
5), Video Resolution: “176×144” and “352×288” is mainly used for “3gp” or “3g2” format; “320×240” and “640×480” is basically for “4:3” screen and “640×360” and “854×480” for “16:9” wide screen.
6), Video Display Aspect Ratio: often abbreviated “DAR”. “Same as the Ratio of Video Width to Height Resolution”, for example, we set “Video Resolution” is “320×240” in the previous step, then the “DAR” is “320:240”, that is “4:3”. On the other hand, the “DAR” can differ from “the Ratio of Video Width to Height Resolution”, for example, we can have a “320×240” resolution but with a “16:9” DAR, but this need your player support it, or specify the “DAR” manually for the player. More detail about the “DAR” see also: Display aspect ratio, and extended materials see also: Aspect Ratio, Aspect ratio (image), Pixel aspect ratio.
7), The Cropping Style of the Wide Video: this is mainly used for wide video. For example, need convert “DAR” of “16:9” to the “DAR” “4:3”. There are three styles for this. “Keep Width and Pad Height” is preserving full width and padding the black block into top and bottom area. As the contrast, “Keep Height and Crop Width”, it preserves full height and crop left and right parts of the picture. “Crop Width Partly and Pad Height Partly” is the compromise between the previous two. All these three ways will keep the content's shape of the picture, will don't make a circle becomes an egg. The default option is “Keep Height and Crop Width”. See also: Letterboxing (filming).
8), Audio Codec: aac, mp3, mp2, amrnb, vorbis, ac3, flac. “amrnb” can be used in low quality mobile phone video and “aac” can be used in common quality mobile phone video and others. More detail about these audio codecs see also: Comparison of audio formats.
9), Audio Channels: 1 or 2, namely “mono” or “stereo”. See also: Stereophonic sound, Surround sound.
10), Audio Sample Rate: 8000~48000. See also: Sampling rate.
11), Audio Bitrate: 10.2k~384k. See also: Bitrate in Multimedia.
12), Audio Level: Original Level, Increase 2dB~20dB. The default is “Original Level”. See also: Decibel(dB), e.g., “Increase 20dB” indicates sound wave amplitude 10 times of original amplitude. A brief explaination of “dB” see below(copy from: Converting Gain to dB):
+3db is 1.414 times and -3dB is 0.707 times. +6db is double and -6dB is half. +10dB is 3.16 times and -10dB is 0.316 times. +20dB is 10.0 times and -20dB is 0.1 times. Then it is easy to use simple arithmatic to find higher values like +70dB is (10 x 10 x 10 x 3.16)= 3160 times.
13), Split Video: Full, 1 Minute~60 Minutes. The default is “Full”, namely don't split.
When all the options have been selected, need you confirm the options, click “Yes” to continue and “No” return to re-select all options. We click “Yes”.
Then answer if you need write your options to a custom config file, we click “Yes”.
Enter Custom Config File Name: we input “myv2vtest.conf”, click “OK”, the options will be written into file: “/path/to/YOUR EXTENSIONS DIRECTORY(tce)/conf/myv2vtest.conf”, e.g., “/mnt/sda1/tce/conf/myv2vtest.conf”.
Answer if save the options as the default config file. We select “No”.
Answer if convert the auido/video with the current config options now. We select “No” to finish the “Video Converting Configure” task.
